As the release date for “Contra” gets closer, more Vampire Weekend material and information about the album is getting revealed. In an interview with “B-Sides” prior to their club show in Lomita, CA, frontman Ezra Koening mentioned that some of the material was written during his days as a substitute teacher at Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn, NY. Interesting, as their self-titled first album was a snapshot of their thoughts and lives during their days in college, one would expect the follow-up to be about their lives as well-known musicians! Along with a collaboration with Dave Longstreth of Dirty Projectors, Koening also described some of the new tunes just as punk as Operation Ivy and “California-influenced” as Sublime. Watch our interview with Koening within the coming weeks, exclusively on “B-Sides”.
In the meantime, check out the video, which was just released, for the track, “Cousins”.
