Metallica Tease Up-Coming Announcement

In a short video, Metallica is preparing to announce something in which we’ve “never seen them” in. Speculation ranges from a movie to a DVD compilation to commemorate their 30th anniversary as a band. The video, titled “Save the Date” indicates the band will make their announcement on Tuesday, February 7 at 11am Pacific time. The movie may be the strongest possibility since the band noted on its website in January, “there is indeed a 3D project in the very early stages of production! We wish we could tell you more right now, but we don’t have all the finer points nailed down just yet. What we can tell you is that we are planning on being in a theatre near you sometime in 2013 and as you hear us say ever so often, this will be the space for all the details as we finalize them.”

Rock On The Range Lineup Announced

The lineup for Rock On The Range 2012 has been announced. The sixth year of the annual rock festival will be held May 18-20 at Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, OH and feature performances from: Incubus, Rob Zombie, Shinedown, Marilyn Manson, Five Finger Death Punch, Slash, Megadeth, Chevelle, Cypress Hill, Mastodon, Theory of a Deadman, Volbeat, Down, The Darkness, Halestorm, Escape The Fate, P.O.D., Lacuna Coil, Adelitas Way, Black Stone Cherry, Cavo, Attack Attack!, Trivium, Bobaflex, Falling In Reverse, Redlight King, Aranda, Emphatic, Otherwise, James Durbin, Black Tide, Kyng, 12 Stones, SOiL, Rival Sons, Eve To Adam, and Ghosts of August.

“Incubus is stoked to be joinin’ the killer lineup at Rock On The Range this year. We’ll see y’all in Columbus,” comments Brandon Boyd from festival co-headliner Incubus.

“If you thought last time was a blast, then this time we are gonna blow your f#@*ing mind,” says co-headliner Rob Zombie.

To get the party started and based on the success of last year’s anniversary celebration, the weekend will kick off with the Friday Night 4Play, which will feature performances from Hairball, Foxy Shazam, Hells Bells and more.

Tickets for ROCK ON THE RANGE go on-sale Friday, February 10 at 10:00 AM EST at the festival’s website, Ticketmaster and the Crew Stadium Box Office. Two-day weekend stadium GA tickets once again start at just $99.50 (plus service and transaction fees). A limited number of ROTR pre-sale layaway tickets are also still available through February 29.

Mastodon Announce Spring Tour Dates

Grammy nominees Mastodon have announced that they will hit the road for a spring North American tour in support of their current album The Hunter, which was released by Reprise Records in September. The tour kicks off on April 4th in Portland, ME, and visits more than 30 cities in the U.S. and Canada before wrapping up with a hometown show at Atlanta’s Masquerade Music Park on May 12th. The metal stalwarts will tour with Swedish metal band Opeth as co-headliners, with special guest Ghost providing support on all dates. Collectively Mastodon has stated: “We’re excited to co-headline this tour with Opeth for whom we have great respect and admiration. Having Ghost along as well will make this tour a special event.” Tickets go on sale February 3rd and 4th.

Amon Amarth To Perform 20th Anniversary Shows

Swedish death metallers Amon Amarth will celebrate their 20th anniversary with five special shows which will take place this August in Germany, Poland and Holland.

The band states, “We will perform two whole sets containing songs from our entire career and we will also arrange a meet-and-greet on all shows.”

Released in March 2011 via Metal Blade Records, Surtur Rising is Amon Amarth’s eighth studio offering in a winding discography that’s helped shape the very face of epic, Viking-inspired death metal. Named in tribute to Surtur, leader of the fire giants of Muspelheim (“flame land”) and the oldest being in the nine worlds of Norse mythology, the record was recorded, mixed and mastered at Fascination Street Studios Örebro, Sweden with Jens Bogren and bears cover art by Tom Thiel.

OSI Release New Album Details

OSI has announced details about their forthcoming release, Fire Make Thunder, which is the fourth undertaking for the collaborative duo known as OSI Formed in 2002 by Jim Matheos (Fates Warning, Arch/Matheos) and Kevin Moore (Chroma Key, former Dream Theater keyboardist), OSI is a long distance partnership, both musicians typically writing and recording alone and sending song ideas back and forth for further elaboration. Written and recorded throughout most of 2011, this latest release once again reflects the eclectic influences of both Matheos and Moore and is slated for a March 27th release.

Additionally, OSI has released an exclusive audio medley from Fire Make Thunder, which features audio samples from the upcoming release. The medley as well as pre-order opportunities can be accessed HERE.

Returning as the band’s session drummer is Gavin Harrison of Porcupine Tree, this time co-writing one of the tracks with the band. All other instruments and programming were performed by both Matheos and Moore, while vocals and lyrics were handled exclusively by Moore.

All of the recording for Fire Make Thunder, with the exception of drums, was done by Moore and Matheos at each musician’s respective home studio with drums being recorded at Harrison’s home in London. Final overdubs as well as some additional writing/arranging was completed in July 2011 in Jamaica, Iowa, where the band mixed alongside engineer Matt Sepanic at Sound Farm Studio and Recording Environment. Mastering was handled by renowned engineer Roger Siebel. The record was produced by both Moore and Matheos.

The Black Dahlia Murder Announce Tour Dates

Melodic death metal outfit The Black Dahlia Murder will be hitting the road this March marking the band’s first headline run of 2012. In support of their latest album, Ritual, The Black Dahlia Murder will be joined by Nile, Skeletonwitch, and Hour of Penance. The tour kicks off on March 24 in Grand Rapids, MI at The Intersection and wraps up on April 20 in Worcester Mass at the New England Metal & Hardcore festival.

Tickets for the upcoming tour will go on sale starting this Saturday, January 21.

Korn Announce New Tour Dates

Korn has announced new tour dates in support of their latest album, The Path of Totality. The new batch of dates kicks off February 23 in Detroit, running through the mid-west before heading back west and wrapping up March 3 in San Francisco. Kill the Noise will provide support on certain dates, while Korn frontman Jonathan Davis will also debut his brand new DJ set as his J Devil alter ego.

Featuring the current Top Five active rock single “Narcissistic Cannibal,” The Path of Totality showcases the band shifting gears and incorporating a new sound with emerging producers and talent in the burgeoning electronic scene. Tim Armstrong To Release Series on Musical Theatre

Punk icon and Rancid founder, Tim Armstrong has announced a new and original series centered on musical theatre, entitled Tim Timebomb’s RockNRoll Theater. The debut episode will premiere exclusively on VEVO on October 21, 2011. Armstrong will portray a character similar to today’s punk rock Rod Serling, leading and narrating the episodes with a variety of special guest actors and musicians. Each episode will feature extensive song and dance numbers with hard-hitting rock musical songs and rousing dance numbers all wrapped in a dark edge all written by Armstrong. Timebomb’s RockNRoll Theater is described as an homage to the classic American Musicals, as Armstrong stated, “doing a show centered on musical theatre isn’t really a stretch for me. For 25 years I’ve been making music and collaborating with friends, been involved in hundreds of videos, and it’s really just a direct extension of my world.”

The pilot episode of Timebomb’s RockNRoll Theater entitled “Dante,” will bring the 14th Century epic poem, Dante’s Inferno, roaring into the 21th Century with a new take on greed and corporate corruption. The episode stars AFI frontman Davey Havok, guitarist and vocalist Lars Frederiksen of Rancid, and actor Robert David Hall known for his extensive work on CSI.

Slipknot To Release ‘Iowa’ Special Edition

Slipknot will be releasing a special dual-CD/DVD edition of their second studio album Iowa to commemorate the album’s 10 year anniversary. The package will be released on November 1, 2011 and feature the bonus track “My Plague (New Abuse Mix) as part of the band’s landmark album. The second CD will showcase their London Arena live set, Disasterpieces, performed in 2002. The DVD will feature the film Goat, as directed by Michael Shawn “Clown” Crahan and show never-before-seen interviews and footage showing the madness that surrounded the Iowa era, plus four music videos.

Megadeath To Relaunch Gigantour

Megadeath will re-relaunch their critically acclaimed package festival Gigantour. The festival was originally formed in 2005 having featured Anthrax, Dream Theater, Fear Factory, Lamb of God, Opeth, Static-X and In Flames. The 2012 version will feature a stellar multi-artist bill including Motorhead, Volbeat and Lacuna Coil. The tour will kick off in early 2012 with dates tentatively set for late January through early March. Gigantour was founded by Megadeath frontman Dave Mustaine in 2005 and was last in the U.S. in May 2008. Megadeath will release their thirteenth album–appropriately titled Th1rt3en on November 1st.
