Artist Spotlight: Glasvegas

glasvegasGlasvegas is a Scottish band that hails from Dalmarnock, in the east end of Glasgow.  No other band sounds like Glasvegas. With unique vocals, and an indie-pop feel, Glasvegas consists of James Allan (vocals, rhythm guitar), Rab Allan (lead guitar, backing vocals), Paul Donoghue (bass guitar, Backing vocals) and Caroline McKay (drum kit). This is an awesome band with catchy melodies, and uplifting lyrics.

The band formed in 2003 playing gigs around Glasgow, Scotland. From 2003 to 2005 Glasvegas toured intermittently around Scotland.  Their first release was a limited edition double A-side single, “I’m Gonna Get Stabbed”/”Ina Lvs Rab” which was released in may of 2004.  In 2006, Glasvegas released their 2nd single, “Go Square Go!” which they funded themselves.  They followed up in November of 2007 with the release of their second single, and their breakout song, “Daddy’s Gone”.  Shortly after the release, a full blown bidding war started for the signing of Glasvegas as they reached critical acclaim and were voted the #2 single by NME.  In February of 2008 the third single “It’s My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry” was released shortly after the band signed with Columbia Records.  In September of 2008, their first full length album entitled “Glasvegas” was released and included re-recordings of the previously released singles, as well as a few new songs which included the popular single “Geraldine”.

The album reached critical acclaim and experienced strong record sales, which opted the band to write a Christmas album.  On December 1, 2008 the Christmas album, “A Snowflake Fell (And It Felt Like a Kiss)”, was released, which was recorded over only 12 days, which the band spent in a  Transylvanian Church.  In January 2009, Glasvegas headlined the NME Awards Tour.
