Think, what if Dexter Holland of the Offspring got really, really pissed off. You’d have Epitaph Records latest protege.
Set Your Goals, a Bay Area based group since 2004, has been rocking the hardcore/ pop-punk scenes in little gigs like, you know, Warped Tour, with critical acclaim. Though the sound is hardcore, their message is positive, with songs about their struggle with the music industry, changing style, and growing up. That’s right, growing up. This is not your little sister’s pop-punk band; with relentless energy and a dual set of both singers (Matt Wilson and Jordan Brown) and guitarists (Dan Codd Aire and Audelio Flores Jr XXX), along with the backing team of Joseph Saucedo on bass and Michael Ambrose on drums, the full force of this band drives home their worthwhile points. The band’s debut release, “This Will Be The Death Of Us” enlists Hayley Williams of Paramore as guest vocalist on the track, “The Few That Remain”, and the rest of the album is a big step forward for the band, despite claims that they have “sold out” and “lost their hardcore roots.” The whole point is to share the music with as many people as possible. Those many people will know Set Your Goals soon enough!
